Ouran Live Drama

I had heard a while back that they were making a live drama version of Ouran High School Host Club, but since then I hadn't heard much about it.  Well, I finally watched episode one last night thanks to Isabel.  I have yet to watch anymore of it, but here's my basic reaction to episode one:

I thought the episode was really faithful to the manga and anime (although Isabel tells me that changes later), which I enjoyed.  Still, it comes across as a little over the top as live action.  I love it, but I think that's just because I was already a fan.  If you'd never seen Ouran before, it would probably just come across as weird to you.  (Granted the anime and manga are weird too, but that's how they're supposed to be.)  Also, I think Kyoya is my favorite host in the live drama (Tamaki is in the manga and anime), and I really like the actress who plays Haruhi.

Haley finally finished reading Mockingjay, so we got to talk about it at lunch!  I love talking about books with people when they've just finished reading them.  It's so fun to see other people's reactions to things and hear what they think.

I know I'm forgetting something that I wanted to mention in this post, but I guess that'll just have to stay a mystery.  Maybe I'll remember and put it in a later post.  I can't get my brain to cooperate at the moment.

Hunger Games Shipping

Three days ago I posted a video about Harry Potter ships.  In it I mentioned that I was probably going to post shipping related videos and blog posts about other fandoms.  This is one of those posts.

Is it any surprise that I'm going to talk about Peeta and Katniss first?  I love them so much!  They're not really the couple that would usually be considered adorable (no couple with Katniss would be really), yet I still think of that word when I think of them together.  I guess Peeta makes up for Katniss in the adorable department.  When I read The Hunger Games for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect.  After reading the scene where Peeta confesses his feelings in front of the whole country, I was kind of shocked.  At that point I still wasn't sure if I wanted them together or not.  That quickly changed while reading about them in the games.

I adore Peeta so much.  Honestly, I would have gotten fed up with Katniss after their first games and probably would have written her off.  (I guess he came close to that, but it didn't really work.)  I love reading about how much Peeta loves Katniss.  (And, Katniss loves Peeta even if it takes her forever to realize it.)

One of the things that kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole series was their relationship.  Personally, I think Katniss fell in love with Peeta a long long time before she actually realized it.  I just wish we could read more about them as a (real) couple.

I thought Gale was a pretty decent character at first, but as I read Mockingjay, I started liking him less and less.  Still, I couldn't help but ship him with someone.  In between Catching Fire and Mockingjay I started thinking about what would happen if Madge and Gale ended up together.  (I wasn't the only one of course.)  It wasn't something I was very invested in (like Neville/Luna), but I'd thought about it.  That all went down the drain in the third book.  Then I read the scene in Mockingjay when Gale goes to visit Katniss in the hospital.  You remember how Johanna is there?  Do I even need to tell you what I ship now?  For me, the Gale/Johanna ship is at just about the same level as Gale/Madge was (or still is) for me.  I don't usually read fanfiction for either couple unless I just happen to stumble upon it, but I enjoy both couples.

Of course I have to mention Finnick and Annie.  I love them so much!  I don't read much fanfiction about them either, but I love when they make appearances in other fanfiction I read.  While reading Catching Fire I was really curious about them, so I loved reading about them in Mockingjay.  I wish we knew more about what happened to Annie after Mockingjay.

Those are my "top" four ships in the Hunger Games fandom.  Like I said in the Harry Potter video, I'll probably go back to each fandom at some point in time and do each couple more in depth.  What are your favorite Hunger Games couples?

Disappointments

When I get into a series, I get really into it.  I find fansites, forums, etc., and I love to hear what other people think about the books.  One thing that I've noticed in a lot of these fandoms is that there's always a group of people who's disappointed with the ending.  This isn't limited to books either.  I've also seen it in TV series.

Sometimes this group of people is large, and sometimes it's small.  However, in all of the fandoms I've been a part of, I've never been in this group.  I started thinking about why this could be the other day.  If you read my post about the Harry Potter epilogue, then you might already see why a bit.  I'm just not a person who's disappointed in the endings of series.

I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that I don't often let my expectations get to high.  I see some people with a long list of details that they absolutely want to see happen in the series.  On the other hand, my list is often extremely short.  As long as everyone's happy (minus the villians and maybe a few deaths) I'll probably be happy, or if the author has a good reason, I can even accept one of my favorite characters ending up miserable (though I'll always prefer a happy ending).  Because of this, no matter what the author decides to do, I'm open to the idea.  This, I think, is the biggest factor in my lack of disappointment.

I'm glad that I'm not someone who's constantly let down by the endings of my favorite series.  I love the fact that I read and enjoy the final books just as much, if not more, than I do every other book in the series.  I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter epilogue, I loved Mockingjay and thought the hijiacking was done amazingly well, and I even liked Breaking Dawn.  (I honestly don't see how Breaking Dawn is worse than any other Twilight book, but maybe that's just me.)  In fact, the final book is usually my favorite of the series especially if there's a happy ending involved.

(These past couple posts about happy endings have made me realize that I'm an incredibly cheesy person.  I love it.)
